The security officer's fingers dug deep into her forearm, yanking her sideways with surprising force. She stumbled, her carry-on bag slipping from her shoulder and hitting the polished floor with a thud.

"Let go of me!" she snapped, twisting against his hold. Her voice echoed slightly in the busy terminal corridor. Heads turned. A few passengers in the premium line slowed down, staring.

He didn't release her. Instead, he pulled harder, dragging her toward a side door marked "Authorized Personnel Only." His badge glinted under the fluorescent lights, but she couldn't make out the name in the blur of motion.

"You think you can just walk in here?" he growled low, close to her ear. "This isn't your section. Rules are rules."

Her heart pounded. The ticket in her hand was valid—she had checked it three times at home. Business class. Confirmed seat. Yet his eyes scanned her like she was an intruder, his grip unyielding.

Another officer approached from the gate area, radio clipped to his belt crackling with static. He glanced at the scene but said nothing at first, just nodded toward the side door.

She planted her feet, refusing to be hauled away like baggage. "I want your supervisor. Right now. This is assault."

The first officer laughed under his breath, a short, bitter sound. "Lady, you've got no idea how this works. People like you always think the rules don't apply." He shoved the door open with his free hand, the cool air from the service hallway rushing out.

Inside, the noise of the main terminal dulled. Fluorescent strips buzzed overhead. A desk sat cluttered with clipboards and monitors showing passenger lists. He finally loosened his grip but stayed close, blocking the exit.

She rubbed her arm, the skin already reddening. Anger flared hot in her chest. Other travelers had been allowed through without a word. What made her different? The cut of her coat? The color of her skin? The way she carried herself?

"Check the system," she demanded, holding out her ticket again. "It's there. Boarded and paid."

He crossed his arms, ignoring the paper. The second officer stepped in, murmuring something into his radio. Footsteps echoed from deeper in the hallway—more personnel coming.

She stood her ground, pulse racing, wondering how far this would go. One wrong move and this could spiral. But backing down wasn't an option. Not today.

The door behind her clicked shut. The terminal sounds faded further. Whatever happened next, it wouldn't stay quiet for long.
